Chapter Eight

Bad times at Barammen High. :(

...dammit, I did it again. From now on: HOGWARTS.

All the little kids travel in packs so they won't be attacked. (I would have been eaten alive at Hogwarts)

This is the chapter where the kids play Wolfpack. Little Garak seems to really like hunting part, the being hunted, not so much. That's natural. His little crush on Eight is coming along quite nicely, he thinks little Eight is so great, he should have been One. D'awww.

Keeping the talented Eight in his place requires some political wrangling in-group. Going through all of this, the kids remind me of the kids from South Park, with Six being more studious, Four being a pervert, Five also having a crush on Eight...

Eight wins at Wolfpack the first time he's the prey. Awesome job! Little Garak's horrible at it and gets caught early on purpose. He'll pay for that, I imagine.

Calyx call Garak an 'air man' 'cause he lives in his dreams too much. He says "living in your dreams is like living in exile." Ouch. Although, maybe having lived in his dreams as a youngster, Garak was better able to survive exile than someone who wasn't an air man.

Garak lingers after Gym and meets the girl from before. Turns out her name is Palandine. She seems nice, and thinks he should work on his sense of humor.

Chapter Nine

Back on the station, in the past. Garak's looking for Dr. Bashir... who's with Chief O'Brien. Ouch again.

Still upset over being ditched by Bashir, Garak starts a brawl on the way home and gets caught by Odo. I always liked the rare Garak and Odo interactions. I wish we'd gotten to see more of it on the show. This is a really sweet one, Odo's so nice to Garak.

Chapter Ten

So little Garak got solitary for messing up in the Wilderness. Story of his life, I guess. Inside, he thinks of Palandine, to be able to calm down and breathe again.

...look, I like this Palandine, I really do. But she's starting to sound like a Fridge Princess like Ziyal, and we all know how she ended up. I'm hoping the "there's no excuse for killing a defenseless woman... unless you'd grown up in our system" thing from a few paragraphs ago wasn't some sort of Chekhov's Gun moment.

Next time playing Wolfpack, Garak gets himself a new pet, a regnar he named Mila. So cute. :3

Mila's something like a chameleon, and copying him let's little Garak become a champion at Wolfpack, with an unbeaten streak lasting the rest of the time he's in school.

Chapter Eleven

Back at the station, Odo's organized a little luncheon between himself, Dr. Bashir, and Garak. So sweet, that Odo, even if he pretends to be gruff.

Anyway, the talk eventually come around to politics and Dr. Bashir says something really naive, like he got all his Poly Sci from... well, earlier Star Treks. Garak gets upset, the peanut gallery starts chiming in, and Garak leaves, probably to avoid another brawl.

This chapter's ends on a sad note, as Garak's alone in his shop, realizing there might not be a place for him on Cardassia anymore, or ever again.

Jeez.
