A Stitch In Time Discussion Post. I took the liberty of posting today. I hope you don't mind.
Chapter 16
Secret meetings with Palandine and her talking about his smile. I confess, this amused me, because I doubt Palandine would approve of the kind of smiles we see sometimes in the series. Those are downright scary! Funny though how Palandine is the one to teach him about the truth or lack thereof. Makes it all the more bittersweet to watch the series now. Aw. Poor Garak. I'd hug him if I wasn't afraid he'd kill me and dump my corpse somewhere...
Apparently Palandine is also responsible for Garak's love of poetry. Interesting. Good to see Garak happy for once, though. Aaww.
Chapter 17
Back on DS9 with a wonderful cameo by Quark. Andrew Robinson nailed his voice nicely! Makes me happy. :o)
Interesting interplay with the dabo "woman". I'm very curious to see where this goes. Not much else goes on in this chapter.
Chapter 18
The Competetion begins. Garak dsiplays his awesome for pages and pages. And frankly, I eat it all up. I was on the edge of my seat for the entire chapter. I wasn't exactly surprised when they won, but I was gasping for breath. My respect for Robinson's writing reaches new heights. Awesome.
Also, the poor kid losing his eye? Erk. If this competition is meant to be a representation of Cardassian society, I shudder to think what's at stake getting ahead as an adult. Clearly, losing your life isn't unusual or even surprising when moving up in the world. :oS
Chapter 19
The name of the opposing group: Ramaklan... reminds me of Jem'Hadar names. Actually, the whole system does. Ramaklan One = Ramaklan First? The jump isn't that wide.
Poor, little Garak being royally screwed over by Charaban. Aaawww. Guess this is how he learned to never trust anyone. I need tissues now. I'm getting totally weepy.
