Keeping Up With The Cardassians

Since we've got a new member and all, I thought it might be nice to have a small discussion topic. So, here's a question:

Who's your favorite Cardassian, and why?

Don't make me interrogate you later.

Mine is Tora Ziyal. She's only half Cardassian, true, but she totally counts.

When I first watched the show, I felt a lot like her, I didn't feel like I fit in a lot of places where I went, but she was always so cheerful and nice. And then she found her place and became an artist and it was awesome.

I wasn't too keen on the whole dying part, but what can you do?

I wish we'd gotten to see more female Cardassians. They had such cool hair.

Ziyal's nice shipped with Jake, but sometimes I think she'd also be a good match for Nog. What do you think?

My favorite character is Garak. Charming, queer-coded, mysterious, and exciting. His love of his culture, particularly its art, is wonderful.

He obviously loves being a mentor, and considers it important even though he doesn't see himself as part of the community on Deep Space Nine. He mentors Bashir, then Ziyal, and finally attempts to take Nog under his wing, though it didn't work out so well with Nog.

Given his attitude to violence in general and institutionalized violence in particular, he's not someone I would want to know in RL. (Nor would he be very impressed with my pacifism, I imagine.)

I liked seeing Cardassian aesthetic tastes through Garak, I wish we'd been able to see more of that aspect of their culture.

You should know, you've just put a very weird Charlie's Angels image in my head of Bashir, Ziyal & Nog as super agents and Garak as their Charlie. His own personal Obsidian Order. It's quite interesting, thanks!

I'm afraid I have to be boring here and go with Garak too. Because he's just too interesting and mysterious to NOT be my favorite! Plus, he's so badass it hurts! Too sexy for his tunic! YEAH, BABY!

But I like Ziyal as well. She's just such a cutie. And Dukat is brilliant. It's like the term "Magnificent Bastard" was made with him in mind. Oh yeah.
