A Stitch In Time: chapters 20-23

A Stitch In Time Discussion Post. Sorry I'm falling behind. Gah.

Chapter 20

Garak enjoys tailoring. I knew it. I don't think he ever said it one the show. I know he said he was a good tailor, but enjoying it? That's kinda new.
However, Andy getting their tea choises wrong bothers me. Bashir drinks Tarkalean tea, whish it seems most replikators can spit out and I'm SURE Garak would be able to find something he would like better than Earl Grey. If he keeps drinking it, he must find some kind of perverse pleasure in drinking something he hates. Maybe he drinks it just to have an excuse to bitch about something.
Even though the meeting with Bashir was a blaring reminder of the void between them, my G/B bunnies are still happy. They're interacting. It's good.

Chapter 21

Three-year evaluation. Surprise visit by Tain. From the second he appeared I got this strange feeling that Tain had planned out every minute of Garak's entire life. That he personally made sure that Garak got in, got made Ten and then given a whiff of power before being cheated out of it at the last second. He certainly would be cruel enough for it.

Chapter 22

Weird rock piles. Very cryptic little chapter. Not sure what it's there for. Not sure Andy knew, either. Unless of course he returns to it later. *shrug*

Chapter 23
Confronting Palandine. That fact that she seem genuinely surprised about Garak being moved to another school makes me even more suspicious that Tain pulled some strings to get her and Charaban to betray Garak.
The way Charaban (or, well, Barkan) reacts to everything Garak says makes me weep for Cardassian children. At least the ones in those schools. Gosh. Anything that makes you THAT calculating in your teens has to be cruel to the very core. God.
But then again, Garak is even worse, because he seems numb to it all. Aw man. I wanna hug him. Again. But he'd kill me. Again.

The Tain thing is very depressing, I get the same sense that he's kinda hijacked Garak's life and has it all planned out. Garak probably could have been perfectly happy just as a gardener (for real) with Tolan.

Poor Garak, watching his childhood is like seeing an avalanche in slow motion. You know what's going to happen, and you know it's too late to stop any of it.
